SOSV’s Food-X, the world’s first and most active food innovation accelerator, today announced its call for applicants to join the startup roster for its upcoming cohort: Cohort 9.
With the eighth cohort, Food-X has now invested is $5.5+ million in and worked with 70 different businesses. Twenty-seven of those businesses – or 39% of all Food-X companies (including the current cohort) – have completed seed rounds post-accelerator. Now, the accelerator is calling on the next generation of food innovators and disruptors to join Cohort 9 in Spring 2019.
Tell Me More About Food-X. Food-X’s mission is to scale change throughout the food system by investing in early-stage entrepreneurs that aim to solve the biggest global food challenges: global health, sustainable food systems, food safety, traceability, advanced manufacturing, connectivity in the developing world, and more. The accelerator provides an intensive three-month program in New York City. The program helps these nascent companies grow quickly and reach their full potential via financial and human capital investments that span startup capital, expert mentorship, and access to a global network of thought leaders, as well as a growing Food-X Alumni community. It culminates with a Demo Day style event: the opportunity to present the company to angel investors, venture capital funds, and media.
Who Should Apply? The accelerator is looking for early stage food companies from around the world and up and down the supply chain streams, from agriculture to innovative consumer packaged goods, to be a part of the food revolution. This includes ventures creating change within the traditional food system structure, such as production, processing, distribution, consumption and disposal, as well as technology driven startups in data science, artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and beyond. Nutraceuticals and functional foods companies are welcome. Same with blockchain businesses within the food system. That said, the types of businesses Food-X is most excited about are the ones that are tackling:
-- The Intersection of Food and Medicine
-- The Reduction of Waste
-- Sustainable Proteins
-- The Application of Advanced Technology in the Food Industry
-- Sustainable Packaging Innovation
